TO BE SAFE IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO SCAN ANY EXE FILE FOR MALWARE BEFORE CLICKING 'RUN ANYWAY' AS MENTIONED BELOW.
You can download for free and use as you wish.
- If you want to run the exe, you'll need the GfaWin23.ocx file on your system in the same dir as the exe or in the environment search path.
- If you have GFA-BASIC 32 for Windows installed you'll only need the exe.
- If you want to edit the source code: .G32 file, you'll need to install GFA-BASIC 32 for Windows.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen is a security feature that helps protect you from harmful websites, phishing, and risky downloads by checking files and sites for suspicious behavior. If something looks unsafe, SmartScreen gives you a warning.
Why Might A File Be Flagged?
Downloading an executable file (EXE) from Itch.io might trigger a warning, but this doesn’t mean it’s malware!
SmartScreen may flag a file if:
- It’s new or not widely downloaded.
- It doesn’t have a trusted digital signature.
- It hasn’t built up a reputation as "safe" yet.
How Can I Ensure It’s Safe?
- Scan the file with antivirus software or tools like Microsoft Defender.
- Use online services like VirusTotal to analyze the file with multiple antivirus engines.
If you trust the source and the file passes these checks, you can confidently bypass the warning and enjoy your Itch.io download safely. Now you can choose to 'Run anyway' or select 'Unblock' in the EXE's properties in the lower right corner.
